People across Latvia are invited to support the charity campaign “School Backpacks for Ukrainian Children”, aimed at raising funds for school backpacks and essential school supplies. The cost of one complete school backpack set is approximately EUR 35, and the backpacks will be delivered to children living in rural areas of central Ukraine. This region has repeatedly suffered Russian missile and drone attacks due to its strategic location and critical infrastructure. Funds are currently needed to provide 500 additional backpacks. “As the war enters its fifth year, many Ukrainian children have never experienced what it is like to attend school in peace, without bombs falling or drones flying overhead. We cannot stop the war or give these children back the carefree childhood they deserve, but together we can make the start of the new school year a joyful occasion. We sincerely thank everyone who has already contributed and encourage everyone to support the campaign according to their means. Every donation matters, even just a few euros,” says Jānis Putniņš, one of the initiators of the campaign and Head of SIXT Car Rental in the Baltics.

This is the fourth consecutive year the campaign has been organised. Last year, around 500 school backpacks were delivered to the Cherkasy region, and the genuine joy and gratitude shown by the children inspired the organisers to expand the campaign this year and involve even more people.
Each child will receive an ergonomic and spacious school backpack filled with stationery, a pencil case, writing supplies, a reusable water bottle, a lunch box and sweets. More than just practical school equipment, these backpacks represent hope and reassurance that the children have not been forgotten and that people in other countries continue to stand with them.
The organisers also invite companies that manufacture or sell stationery and school supplies to support the initiative. At the end of August, the campaign organisers and volunteers plan to travel to Ukraine to personally deliver the backpacks to the children.

The charity campaign is organised by SIA “Transporent”, the official SIXT franchise partner in the Baltics and Finland, in cooperation with the Riga Jesus Evangelical Lutheran Church. More information about the campaign is available HERE.
