Tallink Silja Line has renewed the themed buffet table at its Grande Buffet restaurant in a way never seen on board its ships. For the first time, dishes have been developed together with Finnish and Estonian food influencers and their followers; bringing ideas directly from TikTok and Instagram to the cruise experience.

In a recent study among Tallink Silja Line’s 18–25-year-old TikTok followers, the Grande Buffet emerged as a key reason to travel by ship. Based on these insights, Tallink Silja Line decided to rethink the design of the Grande Buffet themed table from an entirely new perspective: by handing over the creative responsibility to food influencers and their communities.
“Grande Buffet is a highlight for many of our passengers. It is an experience that is anticipated and remembered. When we saw how important it is, especially for younger travelers, we wanted to renew it boldly. Collaborating with food influencers and their communities brought a completely new level of creativity and authenticity to the process. It has been exciting to see ideas born on social media turn into real dishes that nearly half a million passengers will be able to taste,” says Joonas Maunula, Creative Head Chef at Tallink Silja Line.
A themed buffet created together with influencers and their followers
Well-known food influencers from Finland and Estonia were invited to take part in the project. Their task was to engage their own social media communities in ideating dishes, refining flavor profiles, and developing recipes.
The selected influencers are Joel Kiiskinen, Sonja Juntikka, and Melanié Rezé from Finland, as well as Estonian food influencers Liisu Miller and Kristjan “Kohver” Jakobson, winner of MasterChef Estonia 2024.
The influencer-designed Grande Buffet themed table will be available on all Tallink Silja Line ships until 4 August 2026 and is expected to reach up to 500,000 passengers.
Influencers’ stories and background reflect on the plate
Joel Kiiskinen (@joelkiiskinen) is known on TikTok for his approachable and distinctive cooking style. His roots in Lapland are reflected in dishes where traditional northern ingredients are given a modern street food twist. His crowd-developed squeaky cheese hot dog combines savory Finnish squeaky cheese with sweet jam in an unexpected way.

Sonja Juntikka (@sonjamelina) specializes in viral desserts and irresistibly shareable recipes. The dishes she created for the Grande Buffet themed table highlight Scandinavian flavors and local ingredients. Her mini cookies previously became a TikTok phenomenon and gained international attention.

Kohver (Kristjan Jakobson, account: @kohvefe) is a versatile content creator and musician who is a member of the popular band 5MIINUST. This victory proved that his passion for good food is more than just a hobby; it’s a strong skill and a creative form of expression.

In addition to the influencer-designed themed table, the Grande Buffet selection combines beloved classics with bold international flavors. Favorites such as shrimp, chocolate mousse, and a wide variety of fish and salads remain, complemented by new inspiring dishes. The selection also highlights local Baltic Sea region ingredients, including Swedish Västerbotten cheese, Estonian cold-smoked salmon tartare, and Finnish blackcurrant herring.
