«Tallink Baltic Queen» will undergo scheduled maintenance starting on February 1 for two weeks

On February 1, the passenger ship Baltic Queen, which sails between Tallinn and Stockholm, will navigate to Naantali, Finland, for regular technical maintenance. Most of the maintenance will focus on the ship’s technical systems. Additionally, the hull will be coated with innovative antifouling paint to reduce water resistance. While the Baltic Queen is in dry dock, passengers can travel from Estonia to Sweden on the Superfast IX, which sails between Paldiski and Kapellskär. Alternatively, they can travel to Stockholm via Helsinki on the Silja Serenade or Silja Symphony.

“To keep our ships in good and safe condition, constant maintenance is essential. In addition to the daily work and regular maintenance performed by the crew, more thorough maintenance is necessary every few years to maintain and renew the ship’s underwater parts and tanks. This includes overhauling all watertight seals and valves and renewing the innovative paint coating on the underwater hull that reduces water resistance and decreases the ship’s fuel consumption,” explained Tarvi-Carlos Tuulik, Chief Captain of Tallink Grupp.

In addition to paint renewal and maintaining the thrusters, the anchor chains are inspected, winches are tested, and the stabilizers are maintained. Much of the docking work involves the ship’s auxiliary systems, including cleaning and maintaining the ventilation and potable water systems. Since several passenger areas were updated during the longer docking period in 2023, the scope of work for this period is smaller. However, the passenger sauna area will be updated, some cabins will be recarpeted, and some flooring work will be done in other passenger areas.

The Baltic Queen will head to Naantali on February 1. On February 13, the ship will be back in Tallinn, ready to depart later in the evening for a Valentine’s Day star artist cruise to Stockholm featuring the popular rock band Terminaator.
While Baltic Queen is in dry dock, passengers and cargo clients can reach Sweden from Estonia by taking the Superfast IX ship from Paldiski to Kapellskär, or via Helsinki and Turku. Superfast IX has four departures per week while Baltic Queen is in the dock, and the journey lasts nine hours. The Silja Serenade and Silja Symphony alternate daily departures between Helsinki and Stockholm.

All Tallink Grupp vessels undergo regular dockings in accordance with international regulations and the highest standards of the shipowner. Ships must undergo regular dockings at least twice every five years. The Baltic Queen last docked in Naantali, Finland, in September 2023.
