More than 384,000 passengers passed through Tallinn Airport in July, marking the highest monthly figure in the airport’s history and an increase of nearly one fifth compared with the same period last year. During the first seven months of the year, the airport served 2.15 million passengers, 11% more than in the same period last year.

Passenger growth was driven primarily by Wizz Air, which has expanded significantly in Tallinn over the past year. In July, the airline carried 19% of all passengers at Tallinn Airport and offered direct flights to nine destinations. airBaltic retained its position as the largest airline, with a market share of 29%. In total, 19 airlines operated scheduled and charter flights from Tallinn to nearly 50 destinations in July.
“The 19% increase in passenger numbers in July confirms that demand for air travel remains strong. Growth is being supported both by the additional capacity offered by airlines and by a more diverse route network. We are particularly pleased to see that the new routes to Poland, Hungary and Italy have also increased the number of tourists arriving in Estonia, while passenger growth is becoming more evenly distributed across a wider range of destinations,” said Eero Pärgmäe, Member of the Management Board of Tallinn Airport.
The vast majority of passengers, 94%, travelled on scheduled flights, while charter flights accounted for 6%. Charter passengers are increasingly concentrated on a small number of popular holiday destinations. In July, Antalya was the main charter destination, accounting for nearly three quarters of all charter traffic. Scheduled flights to Antalya are also available.
The trend for scheduled flights is the opposite: compared with last year, the route network has become more diverse and passengers are distributed more evenly across destinations. Warsaw was the most popular direct route in July, followed by Helsinki, Riga, Frankfurt and Stockholm.
The number of flight operations increased by 8% in July compared with the same month last year. A total of 4,101 take-offs and landings were recorded, averaging 132 flight operations per day.
Passenger numbers also increased at Estonia’s regional airports, which served a total of 9,181 passengers in July. Kuressaare Airport recorded the strongest growth, serving a record 5,037 passengers following the launch of the seasonal Helsinki route. Tartu Airport served 2,223 passengers despite its reduced summer schedule, Kärdla Airport 1,709 passengers and Pärnu Airport 204 passengers. Ruhnu Airfield served eight passengers.
The number of airline tickets currently on sale for the coming months indicates that the busy summer travel season will continue until the end of October.
